Description

Commencing at Tempe Railway Station, west side, we use bike paths and quieter backroads to make our way to the Captain Cook Bridge, where we use Taren Point Road and The Kingsway to make our way to Loftus then along the shoulder for a short toilet and coffee stop at Heathcote McDonalds, or bring your own snack for this stop. Following this, we move south to Waterfall, mainly on the shoulder, then descend into the Royal National Park for an almost traffic free ride, mid-week, through this magnificent bushland. After our toilet stop, and time to appreciate the view from Bald Hill, Stanwell Tops, we take on the challenging Lawrence Hargrave Drive, with fantastic views, great descents and challenging rollers on our way to Thirroul. After coffee at Bulli Surf Club (option also to continue to Wollongong Harbour), we leave the bike paths behind and use wide roads through the back of Bulli, Bellambi, Corrimal and Fairy Meadow where we again re-join the path. We catch the train back from Coniston, which is easier and safer to access than Wollongong Station, but still provides an express service through to Wolli Creek where we disembark and ride the 1.5km back to the start. Regroups are minimal after Loftus.

Notes: This ride has everything from bike paths, back roads, national parks and highway travel. Pace is set as brisk as there is a lot of flat high pace sections requiring sustained pace. We also take in the Sea Cliff Bridge and the exhilarating coast road.Return from Wollongong will be by train.
