Description


4-day (3 nights) small-scale day-riding from Berry/Nowra, staying in South Nowra. Only whole-trip participants, please.

Suitable only for strong-ish or electrified riders, OK with fast vehicles passing close on unshouldered country roads, and plenty of climbing. Prospective participants will be vetted for suitability.

This event WILL proceed because accommodation must be paid for before weather forecast known. Routes will be tailored if weather problematic, and a support vehicle suitable for 4 riders and bikes will be available.

Riders may drive to/from The Shoalhaven, or be driven, or catch trains. Train-ees can give luggage to drivers before trip, and recover it after.

Monday (09/05): 46km [+340M]

  1. 12:20pm: Assemble at Berry Station, after arriving by car or train (ex Central 9:27).
  2. Ride around Berry then to coast, south to Shoalhaven Heads (lunch).
  3. Loop west then north, back to Berry.
  4. Drive or train-then-ride to Nowra accom and check-in.

Tues (10/05): 87km [+650M]

  1. 9:00: Drive 14km SE to Wollumboola and park.
  2. Ride east to Culburra and wander; coffee.
  3. Ride south to Currarong and wander; lunch.
  4. Ride further west to northern part of Jervis Bay.
  5. Loop back to cars and drive to accom.
  6. Distance-averse riders can skip some wandering.

Wens (11/05): 63km [+660M]

  1. 9:00: Drive 14km S to Falls Creek and park.
  2. Ride 10km SE to Huskisson and coffee.
  3. Ride 7km south aside Jervis Bay.
  4. Ride west to St Georges Basin: Erowal Bay and Sanctuary Pt (lunch).
  5. Loop back to cars and drive to accom.

Thursday (12/05): 56km [+340M]

  1. 9:30: Checkout, leaving cars outside.
  2. Ride 8+km to Fleet Air Arm Museum.
  3. Lock bikes outside shop full-length windows.
  4. Tour Museum ($0, optional donation).
  5. Coffee at Museum.
  6. Ride 25km to Greenwell Point.
  7. Retrace 6km for lunch at Greendale's Café, + old-world village.
  8. Return to cars via different route, incl. river views.
  9. Drive or ride-then-train home.

ACCOM: A "basic", low-cost house (no Wi-Fi) has been booked, comprising three bedrooms + a bed in each loungeroom. See photo below. Rear porch suitable for locking bikes overnight.

RESTRICTIONS

  • Riders MUST be double-vaccinated & show proof (phone or printed)
  • Social distancing applies while riding and during stops
  • Riders must not attend if sick, have cold or flu or flu-like symptoms

  • Must be 2022 Bike Leichhardt financial members
  • Riders shall Covid self-test just beforehand, cancelling if positive.
 
 

Disclaimer

Cycling can be an enjoyable and exciting activity. However, like many recreational activities that require physical exertion, cycling carries with it the risk of physical injury. The risks associated with cycling include the risk that:

By participating in the cycling activities provided by the organising Bicycle NSW Affiliated Bicycle User Group, you agree:

  • to obey all Australian and NSW road rules;
  • that your bicycle and equipment is in good mechanical order.
  • to comply with all directions given to you by Bicycle NSW employees or agents of the organising Bicycle User Group;
  • to take full and sole responsibility for any person under the age of 18 years who accompanies you in these cycling activities;
  • that you participate at your own risk; that the agreement for services provided to you by the organising Bicycle User Group does not include any implied or express warranty that the services of the organising Bicycle User Group will be rendered with due care and skill or that any materials provided by the organising Bicycle User Group in connection with the cycling activities will be fit for the purpose for which they are supplied;
  • that the organising Bicycle User Group has no liability to you for personal injury or death arising from the services that the organising Bicycle User Group provides to you; and

to indemnify organising Bicycle User Group against any claim, loss, damage, liability, cost and expense that may be incurred or sustained by the organising Bicycle User Group in connection with any act, matter or thing done, permitted or omitted to be done by you or which was in any way connected with your involvement in the cycling activities.
An approved Australian Standards helmet is required to be worn on all rides. No helmet, no ride. No exceptions. Please ensure your bike is in good working order and bring a spare tube, a pump, tyre levers, a full water bottle and any other tools you may require. It is also recommended you bring money for food and/or fares and your mobile phone.

Children – these rides are not a child minding service. Every rider under the age of 18 must be under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian must watch and control their children for the duration of the ride. The parent/guardian agrees to take full and sole responsibility for their children’s safety. Please contact the Ride Leader in advance to discuss the suitability of a ride for your children.
