Riders will need to be at Strathfield Station to catch the 6:37 am service to Katoomba. The train arrives in Katoomba at 8:28am after a trip of 1hr 51m.

From Katoomba, we take an easterly route, partly via local streets (approx two thirds of the distance) and also on the busier Great Western highway (approx one third of the distance).

The ride undulates its way through the villages of the Blue Mountains, climbing around 400m but descending almost 1000m, as we head inexorably down to plains at Penrith.

Because of the largely downhill nature of the ride, average speeds are higher than normal, so while the pace will be measured, this ride is suitable only for riders who are confident with downhill riding conditions, and good brakes are a must.

There will be at least one coffee stop en route but you should come prepared with snacks due to the duration of the outing.

The ride will officially end at Penrith train station around midday, from where riders will make their way back to Strathfield station by train. There may also be the option for those who are feeling energetic to ride back to the start (approx 45km).
