Description

This ride is essentially the reverse of the more classic Three Gorges ride. In the reverse direction most of the climbs are slightly more difficult in nature.

We ride down to Bobbin Head to tackle the long climb to Mt Colah which gets more difficult in the later few kilometers of the climb. From Mt Colah we make our way along the Pacific Highway to Berowra and turn off to Berowra Heights. From Berowra Heights we take the turn down to the ferry and take care on the narrow and bumpy descent to the water.

A break on the ferry is a good chance to fuel up from the challenging climb up to Berrilee and Arcadia. The climb has some steep sections and the road is quite narrow. Generally there are big gaps between cars due to the ferry and it is recommended to climb as quickly as possible to ensure the narrow sections are cleared before the next bunch of cars arrives. It also plays on the mind. When you come to farmlands you may believe the climb is all over, but no, another third to go. Once up to Berrilee there is still some gradual climbing to Arcadia and some undulations through to Galston.

At the Galston shops we turn left to make our way to Galston Gorge. A twisty descent which some hard breaking so make sure your brakes are in good working order. The climb up the other side features 6 hairpins. The left handers need particular care in choosing a line because on the left side it is very steep whereas on the right side you can run into the oncoming lane. Another mind game near the top as there is still a good climb from the lookout up to Hornbsy Heights.

From Hornsby Heights we travel through Hornsby and Wahroongah back to the start at Turramurra.

Notes: Farewell to Galston Gorge (before two months maintenance)."Relaxed" ride, except the three climbs ;)Late start after madding crowd dissipates ands sun warms.Coffee at Berowra after 27km.Optional lunch at end.
