Description

This is a scenic but hard ride with several steep climbs run that can be run at a variable pace. You should be comfortable doing rides such as Akuna Bay and Church Point,Hills and Surfside, or North to West Head before attempting this ride.

You need to be capable of riding the first 40km of this ride at a pace significantly above the average advertised over undulating terrain. The latter half is slower but is hillier.

From our start point, we travel via Mona Vale Rd and McCarrs Ck Rd to views of Pittwater around Church Point and Bayview. Then via Barrenjoey Rd (traffic) to Palm Beach wharf just in time for the ferry. Glorious views of Broken Bay and Lion Is as we cross to Wagstaffe. After a short ride around the aptly named Pretty Beach foreshore, we come upon the long and steep climb to Marie Byles Lookout above Kilcare - views to the city on a clear day. Then descend through the glorious coastal forest of Bouddi National Park which is progressively replaced by suburbia and more traffic as we approach Gosford. Care is required in decending this section with some steep descents and a rough road surface. The final leg to Woy Woy is more leisurely, around the foreshore of Brisbane Water. Return from Woy Woy by train to Horsnby, and ride or train back to Turramurra.

Coffee Stop can be variable depending on the group.

As there is a limit to the number of bikes that can fit on the ferry, members are required to pre-register. Non-members, please contact the Ride Leader via email to inform them that you are interested in coming along.

We usually return to Turramurra by early afternoon.

Notes: With Whale Beach diversion. Relaxed timing for noon ferry, with takeawy lunch aboard.

Pre-registration is required through the Bike North website link
