RIDE CANCELLED

Riders leave Meadowbank Ferry Wharf, over the Parramatta River, to follow the Haslam Creek cycle paths through to Lidcombe. From Lidcombe the ride heads over to the Dunc Gray Velodrome at Bass Hill, and onto the cycle paths along the Georges River and parklands.

Once the trek along the Georges River and parklands reaches East Hills, the ride turns generally East through suburbia to Revesby for an optional coffee, then continues to a brief crossing of Salt Pan Creek. The ride continues through the suburbs until it reaches Oatley Park.

From Oatley Park, riders head toward a lookout to gain a direct view high over the Georges River, viewing Como in the distance. (Como being another popular destination for Bike North riders). Great for group photos, and selfies.

Oatley Park also contains a small sandstone castle-like structure which is also good for group photos, and selfies. Known as Oatley Castle.

The return journey takes a different path, passing through Oatley, Beverly Hills, Lakemba, before turning onto the Cooks River at South Strathfield for a short period. The ride then continues through familiar Bike North territory back to Sydney Olympic Park, Rhodes and then Meadowbank.

Allow for 4.5 –5 hrs hours including ride briefing, regroups, coffee, and viewing point at a Moderate 19 - 22 kmh pace.

The ride uses a range of shared paths and cycleways, local roads, and slightly busier roads. Riders also need to be comfortable cycling on the road/road shoulder with traffic. A ride leader may alternately choose to ride on available shared paths and cycleways, or on the road nearby.

Riders are to have geared road bikes due to the hilly nature of some ride sections.

Route hazards include on road/path items such as bollards, sticks etc. Riders to be particularly careful on shared paths with pedestrians and dogs that may unexpectedly move in front of the rider.

There are water fountains and toilets on route.

The ride does pass near or through several railway stations that would provide options for riders to leave the ride. Check how trackwork might impact these options. Optionally riders could turn around at any point and retrace the route, but please let the ride leader know BEFORE you leave the ride

Notes: Pre-registration is required. Flatter sections will be ridden at a quicker pace than the advertised range where practical. In the event of poor weather the ride may be cancelled, please check the Bike North website.
