Description

Experience the different parts of Castle Hill: the parks, paths, the history, residential, industrial and shopping strip areas.

The route commences at the Metro, which is at the main shopping strip and centre. The ride heads to Castle Hill Heritage Park (Government Farm), which is the site of the Irish convict rebellion. This is followed by passing through the first private farm that was split from it (First Farm estate).

The ride then passes through the Balintore estate toward the Knightsbridge Estate, with streets names sounding as though they are related to stories from King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. This is quite fitting for a suburb named Castle Hill.

After passing through the New England Estate area with its very British sounding names, Fred Caterson reserve becomes the next destination. Fred Caterson contains a broad range of sport facilities for the area. Of particular interest is the competition BMX Track.

The ride then heads towards the Industrial and secondary shopping district, and of course the car yards. This was the home of the 1980s advertising catch phrase "just up the Windsor Road from Baulkham Hills, and let me do it right for you!” (Tony Packard Holden).

At this time the ride is now on its return journey to the Metro, where coffee can be had.

Allow for 2 to 2.5 hours including ride briefing, regroups, coffee, and viewing interest points at a Steady 17 – 19 kmh pace.

The ride uses a range of shared paths and cycleways, local roads, and slightly busier roads. Riders also need to be comfortable cycling on the road/road shoulder with traffic. A ride leader may alternately choose to ride on available shared paths and cycleways, or on the road nearby.

Riders are to have geared road bikes due to the hilly nature of some ride sections.

Route hazards include on road/path items such as bollards, sticks etc. Riders to be particularly careful on shared paths with pedestrians and dogs that may unexpectedly move in front of the rider.

There are water fountains and toilets on route.

The ride does pass near several metro (railway) stations which would provide options for riders to leave the ride. Check how trackwork might impact these options. Optionally riders could turn around at any point and retrace the route, but please let the ride leader know BEFORE you leave the ride
